Приведем фрагмент сценария игрового занятия "Знатоки закона" – "The experts of Law".

Two teams consist of 6 people each. The game consists of several rounds.

Round I. Each team has got a card with a task. During 5 minutes the contestants must prepare a pantomime, then illustrate the task and depict the right without any words. (“Dumb show”). Card 1: The right for education; The right to have a family.

Card 2: The right for health; The right for rest.

Questions for the audience. Name the rights which were broken in the following fairy tales: "Musicians from Bremen" (the right for freedom, personal immunity); "Kolobok"(the right for personal immunity, for freedom, life, for private property).

Auction for the Law experts":

Host of the quiz: Hello, dear friends! We are glad to welcome you in this hall and give you a chance to demonstrate your profound knowledge in the area of Law. Law is a kind of such a compass in our life. It shows people the right direction; gives an opportunity to orientate freely and successfully in the endless “sea” of complicated regulations, worked out by the state. Today we’ll try to find out whether you are real experts in this field.

Round I. “Accumulative”.

The teams are to answer the questions in turn. Each right answer brings 10 points.

  1. What is the main Law of the State which defines the social and economic basis of the country, its political regime, the form of the political management, people’s rights and duties, the basic principles of justice, etc.? (Constitution of the country).
  2. What is the name of the country where the juridical education was born? (Ancient Rome), etc.

Round II. “Ruinous or wasteful”.

Teams choose the questions, offered in the field. Each question has its own price. The team gets the points or looses them, depending on the correctness of the answer. Besides, there are questions – auctions, where the teams have a chance to haggle.

Host: You see a field. It is a kind of a grid. Horizontically the segments have numbers (1-5), vertically – letters (A-E). You can’t see the question itself. You can see only its price.

B-1: At what age do people in Russia have legal capacity and capability of functioning? (From the moment of birth till death).

D-1: Since what age can a teenager begin to run his own business? (Since 16).

E-2: In what document are all the person’s rights written? (Declaration on Human rights).

Round III. 10 steps to success.

You will hear 10 prompts one by one. We’ll begin with the most difficult one. Your task is to name a famous Russian writer and public figure. The earlier you do it, the more points you get.

Активно и заинтересованно студенты работают на занятии, которое организовано в виде гражданского форума "Каждый влияет на судьбу своей страны" – "Everybody influences the fate of the country" (Civil Forum).

Civil Forum – the process of movement from facts and opinions to a deep judgment. It is the school of joint decisions, the choice of the common position under the terms of the open dialogue. Procedure:

  1. The participants are explained the main rules of a discussion.
  2. The teacher introduces the topic of the discussion.
  3. The participants share their opinions, experiences, connected with the topic discussed.
  4. The participants analyze the approaches to the problem.
  5. Conclusion: the results of the discussion.

I. The work of the Forum.

The topic “Modern youth and politics” is introduced. On the computer display the students can see the results of the survey conducted the day before. Students are to make a common portrait of a young person of today. They must answer the questions:

  1. What social problems worry us?
  2. How do you see the current society and your role in its life?
  3. What literary characters/ film stars are the ideals for you?
  4. What are the life values and orientations of the today’s young generation?

II. Politics through youth’s eyes.

Should young people take part in the politics? What is the level/ the degree of their participation? The teacher explains some notions:

  1. Independence: politics is for politicians. Everybody should mind his own business. Not interfering in the political process, we provide more comfortable and calm conditions for the work of professionals.
  2. Moderation: people carry out formal civil duties. A prosperous country has good and obedient citizens: we shouldn’t ignore the state when it needs us, e.g. during the elections, referendum, surveys, etc.
  3. Activity: make the politicians take into account our opinion. Politicians, who have real power, rule as they want. Only control and pressure initiating by the public organizations can really change something for the best.

The teacher offers the students to determine their positions. Questions for the discussion:

  1. Are you interested in politics?
  2. What causes your interest?
  3. What is the political orientation of the young people?
  4. What influences its formation?
  5. What political issues demand the youth’s participation?
  6. What youth’s problems worry you?
  7. What are the forms of youth’s participation in politics in our country?

III. We and our city. Questions for the discussion: Who should solve the city problems? What is the role of the young generation in this item? In what way is the Law on Youth implemented in your city?

IV. Summing up the results of the Forum.

How to cope with intolerance

The discussion can be held in the form of a game – analysis of the five situations. The results of the groups are compared later.

Situation 5. Desanka has come to Russia from Serbia. At school she studied Russian and had an excellent mark for written Russian. But she speaks with strong accent. Some kids often laugh at her, imitating her manner of pronunciation the words. They even refuse to chat to her. If the girl tries to say something, they ignore her, pretending not to understand. Desanka worries a lot, tries to speak as little as possible both at the lessons and during the intervals. What should she do?

“On board the train called “Russia” – a hierarchical discussion

  1. Each student is given the list of the passengers of the train.
  2. The teacher briefly describes the situation and asks the students to read the list to themselves.
  3. Each student is offered to choose three passengers with whom he/she would like to travel in one compartment and three passengers he/she would reject as co-travelers.
  4. When the choice is completed, the teacher divides the students into groups of 4-5 people. Each group should compare the choice of everybody, to find differences and similarities. The group must think over the possible reasons that determined the choice of different people. Each group has to prepare one general list of three the most desirable fellow-travelers and three the least desirable fellow-travelers.
  5. Each group should pay attention to those characters who caused the most disagreement. If a group can’t come to the collective conclusion, ask them to to prepare stories about the characters who were the most disputable. Ask the students to remember all the arguments in favour of them and against them.
  6. When all the groups are ready, ask each group (or 2-3 of them) to introduce the results of their work with explanation of their choice. Pay attention to the students’ preferences, as well as the reasons of their solutions.
