Result of experiments and research work of Chinese reading lesson taught by using the games

Аннотация статьи

Together with the science and technology development, the style of living, social and economic relations have been changed in this information and technology century. Related to this, learning Chinese language with scientific and pragmatic purpose, and developing the teaching methodology of the language are concerned to be the first need for youth. Teaching Chinese reading lesson using the games not only activates students and gives the opportunity to have wide knowledge and skills, but also helps the students practice the possessed knowledge in the real-life situation.

Every country throughout the world is getting globalized and the human rights, freedom and justice are performed all over the world. Allowance of studying any foreign languages of the world in Mongolia is one of the positive consequences of this historical transition.

Today, according to the social demand and market need, the Mongolians are now able to choose any eastern and southern languages such as English, French, Japanese, Korean and Chinese. The increasing number of Chinese learners is showing the realistic need and demand of Chinese language and the strengthening of Mongolian and Chinese relationship. For the Chinese learners, the speaking and writing skills are the first requirement to the language. Chinese reading lesson has a lot of benefits in learning the language for the learners. Related to this demand, it is important to make the Chinese reading lesson efficient and interesting for learners, and enrich the lesson with new methodologies that can attract the students.

Scientist K.Gross tried to conclude all materials related to kids games. It helped the development of psychological subject. K.Gross determined the nature and peculiarities of games and named the theory of games as a self-developing theory other scientists, such as K.Buller, Z.Freid, B.Shtern, E.Bern enriched the theory and continued.

There are some books on using the games in lesson written by Mongolian and foreign researchers. They are: E.A Masliko, P.K Babinskaya, A.D.Budika, S.E.Petrova Table book for the teachers of foreign languages 1998, B.Buyanaa “Importance of using games in your teaching” 2007, B.Oyun “Using games in the lessons of secondary schools, A. Nomin Erdene Teaching English grammar using the games” 2005.

Reading skills in Chinese are an integral part of Chinese language training. Reading, like speaking, listening, and writing, is an independent type of speech activity and has its own characteristics. The use of active learning methods to develop Chinese learners' reading skills is a creative activity that can be achieved in a short period of time. The following active learning methods should be used in reading lessons.

The teacher should choose the best methods to organize the lesson efficiently, attract the learners interest, quality of the lesson and improve the speaking and writing skill of learners. The games to be used in the Chinese practice depend on the knowledge level and course of students. The students can be divided into 2 groups. Second course students A,B groups In 2017-2018 academic year, the experimental Chinese practice were taught to the first, second course Chinese students of Khovd branch school of national university of Mongolia by using the games following: Music games, Utility games, Folk, ankle-bone games, Numeral games, Riddle games, Mind developing games.

The A groups students belong to the control group, B groups students belong to experimental group. Altogether there were 27 students both in the control and experimental groups. Students have also filled the questionnaires.

Any definite difference wasn’t observed during this period. Students have filled questionnaires before teaching the experimental lesson.

One of the basic questions from the questionnaires was a question:

— Is it right to teach a lesson by using the games? 45% of all students answered yes, 32% - maybe, 16% - don’t know, 7% - don’t need or no.

— Is it right to teach a practice lesson by using the games?

53% of all students answered yes, 17% - maybe, 15% - don’t know, 5% - don’t need or no.

— Which method of games is efficient for a lesson?

36% of all students voted for ROLE games. 11% - for Folk games, 6% - for Utility games, 19% for Oral games, 8% for Competition games, 15% for Movement games, 5% for Riddle games.

After teaching the experimental Chinese reading /May, 2018/, we took questionnaires from students. By the situation of December to January, 2017, the ability of memorizing new words and expressions has increased for the students from the experimental group 62%, for the students from control group 33%.

Listening comprehension has increased for the students from the experimental group 45%, for the students from control group 22%, pronunciation for the students from the experimental group 83%, for the students from control group 38%. By the end of the experiment, the speaking and writing skills for the students from the experimental group were 45%, memorizing new words 40%, listening comprehension 42%, teamwork ability 37%, pronunciation 40% more than the students from the control group.

The advantages of using the method of games in Chinese reading lesson.

Teaching the Chinese reading using games has the following advantages:

  1. Memorizing words and expressions and learning to use them in the sentences correctly.
  2. Learning to pronounce the sound, intonation, stress and rhythm correctly, memorizing the way of writing the Chinese letters correctly by order.
  3. Enriching the vocabulary of students and teaching them how to use the stylistic structures.
  4. Increasing the vocabulary of students and teaching them how to work with a dictionary.
  5. Increasing the speaking skills, practicing the grammar exercises.
  6. Developing the student's listening comprehension.
  7. Learning to use the possessed vocabulary in the speaking.
  8. Having the students got familiarized with the traditional customs, legends and tales, literature highlights of country.
  9. Teaching the students how to work in a team and choose the partner.
  10. Increasing the ability of working independently, developing the thinking of students.

Conclusion

The following conclusion was made by us:

One: Together with the science and technology development, the style of living, social and economic relations have been changed in this information and technology century. Related to this, learning Chinese language with scientific and pragmatic purpose, and developing the teaching methodology of the language are concerned to be the first need for youth. Teaching Chinese reading lesson using the games not only activates students and gives the opportunity to have wide knowledge and skills, but also helps the students practice the possessed knowledge in the real-life situation.

Two: Using the games in the Chinese reading influences the quality of training, and increases the activity and efforts of students, makes the Chinese speaking surroundings, respecting each other and listening to one another, praising correctly and giving and receiving reprimand properly.

Three: Choosing the proper game in a practice makes the lesson easier for students and provides the lesson with nice atmosphere. The main peculiarity for the lesson is related to the high efficiency of a lesson. The games always calm and relax the mind and remove the internal conflicts of human beings. According to our research work, the games in a lesson help the students overcome the psychological barriers and transfer to positive mental position.

Four: The experiment result shows the importance of teaching a lesson by using the games. Today both the teacher and students don’t support the teacher centered training. The methods of games make the circumstances for students to be involved in the Chinese practice without any force and compulsion.
